It was in 2012 that Microsoft required vendors to install Windows 8 in UEFI boot mode to gpt partitioned drive.
Most Windows 7 installs were to MBR(msdos) partition drives in BIOS boot mode.
Early UEFI often had issues and UEFI needed updates & Linux had to create some work arounds for UEFI that worked with Windows but did not necessarily follow UEFI spec.

Problem solved. I think the problem was the BIOS settings, I disabled fast boot. The partitions also had errors.
